BARSTOW • A 19-year-old Barstow man is set to appear in court Wednesday on charges of sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl.
Dimekko Alexander was arrested Monday at a family member's home on the 200 block of Bighorn Court after a Barstow police investigation revealed he was the suspect in the sexual assault of the girl, according to a police news release.
On Feb. 26, police were called to the offices of a local medical group for a report that the victim was pregnant, according to the news release.
Initial investigation found the pregnancy to be result of a sexual assault and Alexander was identified as the suspect, police said.
After his arrest, additional evidence implicated him as the suspect, according to police.
Detectives discovered Alexander was an acquaintance of the victim's family, and police do not currently suspect there to be any additional victims.
The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office hasn't charged Alexander with rape, court records show.
He is being charged with burglary, forcible lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 and assault of a minor with intent to commit rape, according to court records.
It is currently not clear what the burglary charge stems from.
Alexander has no prior convictions in San Bernardino County, court records show. He pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment Wednesday.
He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga in lieu of $500,000 bail, court records show.
His pre-preliminary hearing is Wednesday.
