BARSTOW David Alan Chavez is scheduled to appear in court Friday following allegations he repeatedly strangled and then threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend while he held her captive inside a home for more than two hours.

Chavez, 47, was arrested for attempted murder, attempted rape, forcible act of sexual penetration and false imprisonment Wednesday, according to a police news release.

At approximately 12:57 p.m., Barstow police were called to the 700 block of East Rimrock Road by neighbors who saw Chavez pulling the 37-year-old woman by her hair back into the home, police said.

Upon arrival, officers heard the woman yelling "Help!"

Police forced open the front door of the home and found the woman lying partially unclothed on the living room floor, according to the news release.

Chavez had fled out the back door and was chased and caught by police while still on the property, police said.

Investigation revealed Chavez had made entry into the home through an unsecured side door.

He allegedly used his hands and pieces of clothing to repeatedly strangle the victim. According to the news release, he sexually assaulted her and told her he was going to kill her by throwing a television on her head.

He was later booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $1 million bail, according to booking records.

The victim had a restraining order against Chavez, police said.
