BARSTOW • A man arrested outside of the First Street Del Taco for producing a gun in front of a police officer entered into a plea bargain, court records show.
Mark Powers, a Ventura resident, pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge of possessing a gun while under the influence of a controlled substance in connection to the Feb. 10 incident.
Powers accepted the prosecution's offer Tuesday after they agreed to drop felony charges of exhibiting a deadly weapon to resist arrest and being a felon or addict in possession of a firearm, according to court records.
He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and three years probation, court records showed.
Barstow police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in a vehicle outside the First Street Del Taco early last week. Powers had stepped out of the vehicle with a shotgun in his hand, Lt. Mike Hunter said at the time.
Powers was ultimately taken into custody without incident.
He is eligible for a weekender/work release program and will also be subject to electronic monitoring upon his release, according to court records.
