BARSTOW• Two men sustained minor injuries when their trailer-hauling SUV overturned Sunday afternoon after the driver lost control as he transitioned from northbound Interstate 15 to eastbound Interstate 40, according to authorities.
The driver was airlifted by Mercy Air to a local hospital for precautionary reasons and the passenger sustained a head injury, CHP spokesman Adam Croxton said.
At approximately 4:01 p.m., CHP arrived on the scene after reports that a Ford Excursion had rolled over into the center divider on the eastbound I-40.
The SUV was hauling a toy trailer and "there was too much weight on the rear," Croxton said. After the driver exited the I-15 to the I-40, the trailer started whipping back and forth before both the SUV and trailer rolled over, Croxton explained.
Both men were from out of the area, Croxton said.
The westbound I-40 was closed momentarily while a Mercy Air helicopter landed in the area. As of 7:30 p.m. Sunday night, both I-40 lanes were open.
