BARSTOW • The June 5 primary election is still 10 days away, but it's not too soon to cast a vote.
San Bernardino County voters who are registered to receive a mail ballot receive them automatically, but others can request a mail-in ballot until Tuesday by completing a form available on the county election office website.
Voters can drop off their mail ballots at any time before polling places close at 8 p.m. on Election Day. In Barstow, voters can drop off ballots at City Hall at 220 E. Mountain View St. and at the Barstow Branch Library at 304 E. Buena Vista St.
Use of mail-in ballots has grown over the decades, according to state records. In 1966, just 1.89 percent of California voters voted by mail. In the 2008 presidential primary, 58 percent of voters voted by mail — the first time a majority of voters did so.
In Barstow, 3,017 of the city's 8,152 registered voters are registered to vote by mail, according to the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.
