NEAR BARSTOW • tractor-trailer rolled about over on SR-247 about five miles south of I-15 Friday morning, causing officials to close the road in both directions for several hours.
The driver was traveling northbound on SR-247 when he lost control of the large vehicle at about 8:06 a.m., causing it to overturn at least once and slide down the road, said M.L. Mielke, captain for the Barstow area California Highway Patrol. No other vehicles were involved. The driver, 39-year-old Misael Godinez of Bakersfield, reported only minor injuries, including a cut to his eye.
The road was closed south of Veterans Parkway, where CHP officers were directing traffic.
The driver was transporting 79,000 pounds of cement, requiring officials to empty the container before moving the truck, Mielke said.
Mielke said he hoped the road will be reopened by 1:30. He said there isn't really an alternate route for those traveling on SR-247, but officers have been suggesting travel on I-15.
