DAGGETT A couple is behind bars after they led Barstow station deputies on a chase Wednesday morning and were finally found hiding in a river bottom, Cindy Bachman, spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff's department, said.

The unidentified couple was arrested for failure to yield, though officials did not release much more information.

A little after 9 a.m., a deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Blazer on Fourth Street and Daggett Road, Bachman said. The driver refused to stop and instead drove off.

Deputies chased the vehicle and eventually ended up off-road near Powerline Road, where the man and woman jumped out of the Blazer and hid in the river bottom, according to Bachman.

The Sheriff's Aviation helicopter crew assisted with the chase and the search of the couple. About an hour after the chase began, Bachman said authorities were able to find the two hiding in the bushes in the river bottom.

The two were booked into the Barstow jail.
