Barstow children dig for dinosaurs during Saturday's Fall Safety Festival, organized by the Barstow Police and Fire Explorers. Sgt. Tim Heiden with the police department said the event was planned mostly by students from the police and fire academies and Barstow High School's ASB.

"This offers a safe place for the kids to come out and have a fun time and not only a fun time but it's educational," Heiden said.

The event was moved to the Cora Harper Fitness Center after organizers determined it would be too cold to hold it outdoors.
