BARSTOW • Law enforcement and other agencies cited 46 parents and arrested six for outstanding warrants during a Barstow area truancy sweep on Tuesday.
According to a Barstow Police report, several agencies checked on students in the Barstow area who have excessive absences and have signed a contract with the School Attendance Review Board. Parents who fail to comply with the contracts are subject to being cited.
In addition to the citations and arrests, services were available to assist both the parents and students in fixing problems that create obstacles for school attendance, including medical issues, mental health issues, transportation or personal problems.
The sweep was conducted by the Barstow Police Department, Barstow Unified School District, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office, San Bernardino County Probation, Department of Children Services and Barstow Recovery Center.
