BARSTOW • A Barstow man and woman suspected in several recent moving truck burglaries at Lenwood Road motels were arrested early Monday morning after police allegedly caught them trying to burglarize a decoy truck.
According to a report from the Barstow Police Department, officers had noticed an increase to vehicle burglaries to moving trucks parked at motels in the Lenwood Road area during the past month. All of the burglaries appeared to be committed by the same people due to the similarities in the crimes.
In an attempt to catch the suspects committing the burglaries, police set up a decoy moving truck at different motel parking lots in the Lenwood Road area during the weekend.
Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, detectives spotted a suspicious car traveling through motel parking lots, according to the report. Police say the car then backed up to the decoy moving truck on the 2700 block of Lenwood Road.
Teresa Kendall, 37, and Sears Roberson, 32, then allegedly exited the car, cut the lock from the truck container door and opened it, according to the report. Detectives arrested Kendall without incident, but Roberson fled from officers on foot. Detectives arrested Roberson after a short foot pursuit in the same area.
Both Roberson and Kendall were booked into the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Jail in Barstow on suspicion of burglary. They are scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday and remain at the Barstow Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
