Steak dinner
The VFW Post 2143, 25190 W. Main St. will be serving a steak dinner on Friday at 6 p.m. Donation will be  $9 and the meal will includes bake potato, salad, dinner roll, vegetables. Blowout sale at Barstow Senior Thrift Store
The Barstow Senior Thrift Store, 929 E. Williams, will be holding a blowout out sale Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Most items will be 50 percent off or cheaper. Proceeds benefit the Senior Nutrition program.

Yard Sale
The Patriot Forum Boxes for the Troops will be holding a yard sale Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1280 Nancy St. There will be clothes, household items, televisions, books, Christmas items, and much more. All proceeds will go towards the purchase of items for troops in the war zones.

Charity sale
Seventh-day Adventist Church, corner Broadway and Center, will hold a charity sale Friday and Sunday at 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Clothing, housewares, Christmas items and craft supplies. No Saturday sales. For information, call 760-252-7127.

Yard Sale
First United Methodist Women's yard sale will be held Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The sale will be held at First United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain View. Furniture, exercise equipment, clothes, and appliances will be available.

Dance at Barstow Senior Center

Karaoke competition
American Legion Post 751 of Newberry Springs, 30196 Newberry Road, will hold regular Karaoke, plus a sign up for a ongoing competition, Friday at 7 p.m. Come on out and exhibit your vocal talents, or just hang out. 'Beauty Bash'
A fundraiser for Greater Hope Foundation will be held at Cutting Edge Salon, 1251 E. Main St., #9, (760-654-5500) Friday and at Inve, 204 N. Third Ave., (760-256-6077) on Wednesday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 10. Both salons will be offering discounted packages only for this event. Proceeds will go towards a holiday party for foster kids. Rummage sale
First Congregational Church, 224 N. Second St., is holding a rummage sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Very nice costume jewelry, pretty glassware, books for .25 and .50 cents, wall mirrors, plants, toys, clothes, and many other quality items can be found.

Poker Run
American Legion Post 751, 30916 Newberry Road, will be holding a poker run on Saturday with sign-in at 8 a.m., with start time at 9 a.m. Entry donation is $20 and cash prizes for winners. The 14th Annual Pistachio Festival will be held on Saturday at the Newberry Community Center & Park, 30884 Newberry Road. Gates open at 9 a.m.

Domestic Violence Training class
A Domestic Violence training class will be offered Saturday through Dec. 3 at Desert Sanctuary, 703 E. Main St. The classes are designed to give an overview of basic concepts of domestic violence to participants in order to increase their knowledge, awareness, and comfort level in dealing with issues of domestic violence. The training meets State of California requirements for those who wish to work directly with victims. Participants will receive a certificate of completion that will allow the participant to work in any domestic violence shelter in California. Annual Awards and Unity Banquet
Barstow NAACP will be holding the 13th annual Awards and Unity Banquet on Saturday, at Hampton Inn, 2710 Lenwood Road. Meet and greet will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:45 p.m. Panel speakers will be Mr. Rodney Sanders, Ms. Sherri Pickett, Mr. Oron Jackson and youth speakers, Shaya Fite and Lawrence Pickett. Yard Sale
The Hinkley Seniors Citizens will have a community yard Sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Hinkley Senior Center, 35997 Mt. View Road (on the corner of Community Blvd. and Mt. View Road). Hi Desert Charities plan poker run
Hi Desert Charities will host a poker Saturday and Sunday at the Slash X Cafe, 28040 Barstow Road. The run is two loops of about 25 miles each, one for four wheel vehicles and one for motorcycles and ATVs. The 12 best poker hands from each day wins. The entry fee is $25. Each driver goes twice for single fee. Dinner is at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Slash X Cafe, the menu will be barbecue chicken, ribs, beans, vegetable and bread. The cost is $13 (plus tax) each. Newberry Springs Senior Center, 33383 Newberry Road, Newberry Springs, will hold bingo the first and second Saturday of each month. Doors open at 5 p.m. with play starting at 6 p.m. Hot dogs will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. The more in attendance, the bigger the jackpots.

Barstow Mall craft fair and mini swap meet

Christmas Community Choir
Members of the community are invited to sing a the 14th annual "Sights and Sounds of Christmas" choir under the direction of Amy Ross, Theater Arts Director and Barstow Community College.
