Fifth- and sixth-graders from elementary schools throughout Barstow Unified School District were taught by STEM Academy members about conservation efforts and were shown plants, animals, and insects at the event. Students were also able to help create replicas of desert animals and plants that will be exhibited at the Desert Discovery Center.

According to David Brockhurst of the Desert Discovery Center, more than 750 children were expected at the Earth Day celebration Wednesday morning.
