BARSTOW Barstow Police and other agencies cited 31 parents and students for violating the education code during a truancy sweep Tuesday.

During the sweep, police also arrested 10 adults for various violations and one juvenile for a parole violation, according to a Barstow Police Department report.

The sweep for minors penalizes those who fail to send their students to school. Each first time offender received a fine of no more than $100 but may receive heavier fines if the offense continues.

Police worked with the Barstow Unified School District, California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office, San Bernardino County Probation and the Barstow Recovery Center and the Department of Children Services during the truancy sweep.
