BARSTOW • A badly decomposing body was found in the desert near a hotel in the Lenwood Road area Monday.

A woman's partially clothed body was found in the desert at the end of Commerce Parkway near the Days Inn, situated near Interstate 15, according to Barstow Police Sgt. Andy Espinoza Sr.  Investigators were looking into the scene as a potential homicide, according to Espinoza.

According to Espinoza, a maid spotted the remains from the top floor of the hotel Monday around 12:30 p.m. The body was badly decomposed and lacked identification, although the woman is believed to be between the ages of 25 to 40, said Espinoza. Investigators from the coroner's office will attempt to lift prints off the body to determine the woman's identity and will investigate the cause of death, although an autopsy could take a few days.

Espinoza did not know how long the body had been at the scene or how long she had been dead, but said it looked as though the crime had been committed elsewhere.
