GRANITE HILLS 11, BARSTOW 4: At Apple Valley, the Barstow High School baseball team couldn't stop the Cougars domination of the Desert Sky League on Wednesday.
The Aztecs got behind quickly in the game and trailed 7-2 after the first two innings. Barstow put two runs on the board in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough to close the gap on Granite Hills. Although Barstow had trouble getting its bats going on Wednesday, Nick Luna was able to snap a two-week hitting slump. He had two hits for four RBIs in the second and seventh innings.
Granite Hills didn't have the same problem on offense. The Cougars had nine hits in addition to four Barstow errors and seven walks during the game.
The Aztecs Paul Haefele pitched the first four innings and gave up eight hits and three walks while striking out two batters. Lucas Crank threw the final two innings giving up one hit, four walks and striking out three batters. Granite Hills Brandon Chambers pitched a complete game.
