The sinkhole which was about 10 feet from the street opened up overnight and was about three feet wide by about 20 feet deep, said Michael Sanchez, who lives at the residence where the sinkhole opened.

The sinkhole appears to have been caused by the septic system, said Manuel Benitez, deputy director for special districts for San Bernardino County. The county was already filling in other septic systems in the area and was able to fill the sinkhole Tuesday afternoon.
