BARSTOW • An ambulance went up in flames in front of Rimrock Villa Convalescent Hospital Thursday afternoon for unknown reasons.
No one was injured in the blaze, which began in the engine compartment of the Desert Ambulance at 1:45 p.m. Barstow Fire District sent two engines to the scene at 27555 Rimrock Road and promptly extinguished the fire, said Assistant Fire Chief Sal Corrao.
A hospital official said no one was in the ambulance — which was on a non-emergency call — when the fire broke out. The ambulance is estimated to be a total loss.
A Desert Ambulance official said the ambulance company had no comment on the fire.
