What's your plan to deal with the city taking over the Fire District?

Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre
Incumbent

Barstow is in the process of bringing the fire department within the city to keep local control.  The residents of Barstow do not want to lose control of our fire department.  Bartow does not need another Governmental agency to tell us what our fire service needs are.

Carmen Hernandez
Planning Commissioner

My plan is to first educate myself as to the process and how it affects our city. Next, my intent is to educate the public as to how the merger will affect them. The fire district merger through LAFCO is completely different than our taking over the parks. The fire district will be a subsidiary district with its own budget, assets and liabilities, which was not understood or explained to the public.

I was in the minority voting against the takeover. But now that we have assumed this responsibility we need to work together to make it a success.

I know many of the folks at the fire department and I know that they are great at what they do. It's essential that the Council continue to provide the support that will keep them great.
I'm ready and willing to make new our new relationship fruitful.
