BARSTOW Sheriff's deputies responding to what appeared a body on an Interstate 40 on-ramp found a mannequin instead and made two arrests Wednesday.


Sheriff's deputies, California Highway Patrol Officers, and military police responded to a reports of a dead body on Wednesday at 10:24 p.m. and found a mannequin wrapped in a "bloody" sheet at the Marine Corps Logistics Base on-ramp to Interstate 40.


As deputies surveyed the scene they saw two people sitting on a nearby hilltop with binoculars. Deputies made contact with Tina Jaramillo, 42, of Yermo, and Sharron Dennis, 39, of Victorville, who admitted they placed the mannequin at the scene and that the incident was a Halloween prank.


Homicide detail was called off and Jaramillo and Dennis were arrested and brought to the Barstow jail, where they were booked for falsely reporting an emergency. The pair remain in custody in lieu of $10,000 bail.
