Democrats are not stewards of freedom
In response to the Oct. 15 letter by Joe Orawczyk regarding personal freedoms ("Valuing personal freedoms"), I feel the need to correct him on a couple of things.
Mr. Orawczyk believes (as I do) that your body is yours to do with what you will such as not wearing a helmet or seatbelt or smoking. Mr. Orawczyk states that is why he mostly votes Democrat. Mr. Orawczyk apparently did not do his homework. The helmet law was put into place by Dick Floyd, Democrat/Gardena, first at the bottom of a farm aid bill for children 15 1/2 years old and younger and then to everyone else. Willie Brown, Democrat, instituted the seat belt law first as a secondary offense and then amended it to a primary infraction. Mr. Orawczyk also should know that literally all the "no smoking" laws, even the ones in your own privately owned business, were the work of Democrats. Look at San Francisco now with its board of supervisors (all Democrats) that have outlawed drinks with sugar in them to be sold on city property. Now they want to ban meat in San Francisco. That's right, they even want to control your diet. So, Mr. Orawczyk, when you speak of losing your individual freedoms to do to your body whatever you want to do, please research the laws and place blame where it belongs.
Next, when mentioning abortion and the mother's right to do her body whatever she wants, you neglect to point out that she is also damaging the baby and the is not right of anyone. If I get a girl pregnant and for whatever reason I don't want to support the child or have anything to do with the child, can I legally abort the baby? Of course not, I would be charged with murder as many people already have been charged with a double murder when they kill a pregnant lady.
You mentioned gays in the military work fine in other countries. Obviously we do not live in other countries, we live here. I for one don't care how things are done in other countries. But since you mentioned it, how about the San Francisco (Democrat) judge that recently stated that European law must be followed when deciding American judicial cases? In other words our personal freedoms must be decided by foreign law. Although there are probably thousands of good and brave gay soldiers, the majority of our military do not want to share showers, foxholes, canteens, and bandages with gays. Contrary to what the liberal newspapers are telling you, the soldiers that I speak to that come into my business do not want to share close quarters (think submarine) with gays. Many great soldiers will leave the military and further weaken our country by allowing openly gay people to serve. Reverend Fred Phelps, the moron from the Westmoreland Baptist church, should not be held up as a example of main stream Christianity. You know that, and so does everyone else.
In conclusion, if you really do value your own personal freedoms, do some actual research and do not get your education from the TV set.
