Barstow XC takes 9th

YUCAIPA The Barstow High School cross country team continued to drop time on Saturday.
The Aztecs finished in ninth place, out of 18 schools, in Division III in the Yucaipa Invitational last weekend. Every varsity runner lowered their personal records during the race. Barstow's Karlan Smith took fifth place out of 100 runners with a time of 16:32.


"We're a long way from where we want to be (back on top), but we're moving in the right direction," Barstow coach Michael Pitassi said.


The Aztecs next meet with be the Inland Empire Challenge at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino on Saturday. Pitassi's high school coach from Rancho Cucamonga organizes the challenge.

BHS moves to 2-3 in DSL

APPLE VALLEY The Barstow High School volleyball team stayed undefeated against Granite Hills on Monday.


The Aztecs beat the Cougars 3-1 after losing the first game 25-22. They went on to win the next three games 25-19, 25-21 and 25-21 to secure the match. Barstow beat Granite Hills 3-2 in the teams' first meeting on Sept. 15.

Courtney Verrill lead the team in kills and digs with 12 and 33 respectively. Nicole Mathews was the team leader in aces with eight. She'kinah Toloumu had 80 assists that led to 23 kills during the game.


The Aztecs are now 2-3 in Desert Sky League play. Barstow will host Burroughs at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in its next match.
