BARSTOW Barstow police arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder Wednesday after allegedly shooting an 18-year-old man in the leg Monday.

Harold Carter was arrested at his home on the 500 block of Williams Street at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday after being involved in an argument that resulted in the 18-year-old being shot on the 300 block of Collins Court early Monday morning, said Sgt. Andy Espinoza Sr. of the Barstow Police Department. Espinoza said when officers responded to 911 calls reporting that shots were fired, they learned that a large group of people had argued in the street, resulting in the shooting. According to Espinoza, one of the bullets went through the bedroom window of a nearby home. Carter was identified as the shooter by witnesses at the scene, Espinoza said.

There were no injuries reported from the neighboring home, Espinoza said, but a young girl was sleeping in the bedroom the bullet struck.

"The residence was not even connected to the argument," he said "That bullet could have caused some serious injuries."

According to a police report, the victim was transported to Barstow Community Hospital, where he was treated and later released. Even though police can't show that the victim or shooter are involved in any gang activity, Espinoza said that's an option officers are investigating. Carter was booked into the San Bernardino County Sheriff's jail, according to the report.
