BARSTOW • A 48-year-old Barstow man who was convicted in connection with the molestation of four children was sentenced to 75 years to life in prison Tuesday.
Steven Bailey was found guilty of three counts of sex with a child under 10 years old, three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old, two counts of forcible sodomy and one count of attempted lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old during a trial on June 8.
Bailey will be forced to register as a sex offender in addition to the 75 years he is expected to serve in prison. Bailey faced 135 years to life for the charges he was convicted of in June.
"I'm happy with the sentencing," Deputy District Attorney Sean Daugherty said. "I echo the feelings of the jurors. It's good to have him off the streets and that he can't continue to prey on children."
On Dec. 10, 2008, a Barstow mother reported that her son was sexually assaulted by a man known as "Stevie." A Barstow Police investigation identified Bailey as the suspect and led to a search warrant for Bailey's residence according to a police report.
Bailey was arrested on December 31, 2008, on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age and one count of sodomy by force .
Three additional victims came forward during the police investigation, according to Daugherty. The four victims range in age from 8 years old to 11 years old.
Bailey is currently being held at the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center in Devore. Daugherty said he expects Bailey to be transferred to a state prison to serve out the remainder of his term soon.
