NEWBERRY SPRINGS • Deputies arrested two men in connection with a June 3 beating and robbery of a man in Newberry Springs.
John Hernandez, 27, and Joel Potter, 45, were arrested Wednesday afternoon for suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Potter was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition larger than .60 caliber.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Cindy Beavers said Hernandez and Potter are accused of beating a man at a house on the 46100 block of Cottonwood Road in Newberry Springs. The man originally went to the house to sell an item to Hernandez and Potter, according to Beavers. Beavers said Hernandez and Potter took the item from from the man after beating him.
The man suffered serious injuries during the attack and required surgery. The man was able to identify his attackers after he healed, according to Beavers.
Hernandez is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $100,000 bail, while Potter is being held on $150,000 bail at the Barstow Jail.
