BARSTOW Barstow will celebrate Earth Day Saturday at the Desert Discovery Center, 831 Barstow Rd. The free event, sponsored by the Desert Discovery Center Partnership, the City of Barstow and the Mojave Desert & Mountain Recycling Authority, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In the past, coordinator Rosa Yriarte said, the event was more of a garden party, but this year's activities will focus on recycling. During the day, there will be workshops focusing on reducing, reusing and recycling waste.

There will also be a live bluegrass band on the patio and vendors selling items like native plants. Representatives from Larry Staggs' worm farm will be present to explain about worm composting.
