BARSTOW - Senior Day was a must win day for the Barstow Aztecs girl's soccer team's playoff hopes, but they fell short, losing to the Silverado Hawks 4-1 Thursday at Langworthy Field
Barstow (2-4 DSL) needed a win on Thursday and one next week against Victorville to secure third place and a playoff birth in the Desert Sky League.

With banners and balloons ready, the Aztecs came aggressively in the first few minutes. They would create many chances, putting the ball in the box early, but couldn't convert .
Silverado (4-0-1 DSL) looked flat footed early. Their defense couldn't stop Barstow's long passes down field and near the net.

The sideline chalk was flying around in the air, as both teams tried to use the wings for their advantage.

Silverado would be the first to score, winger Jasmine Jackson found the net in the 20th minute, after a good cross from the right side fell to her feet.

It wouldn't take more than just four minutes for Jackson to find the back of the net again. This time Jackson went alone splitting Barstow's defense and shooting past a diving keeper.
After Barstow's Clarissa Barber was yellow carded in the 27th minute for having an illegal clip in her hair, Barstow started to create chances, trying to narrow Silverado's lead before half.

The Aztecs would create several opportunities in the closing minutes, hitting the cross bar once, but would trail 2-0 at the half.

At the half the Aztec Seniors Heather Earl, Selina Maldonado, and Victoria Gallegos were congratulated with flowers from Coach Jackie Cooper and their families.

As the second half whistle blew, the Aztecs out ran the Hawks to the ball. It would pay off just three minutes in the second half.

After two good passes, the Aztec's Heather Hooper would find the back of the net in the 43rd minute. Moments later, after a long throw in, Barstow again got another chance, but the shot went wide.

In the 49th minute Silverado's April Lopez put the ball past the keeper, after the Hawk's counter-attacked a miss timed Barstow pass.

Only a few minutes later would seal the victory and kill Barstow's chance at the playoffs this season. Melissa Hernandez scored on a good entrance pass in the 55th minute.

Although the score was lop-sided Barstow, wouldn't go down without a fight, creating many chances with clever passing, but just couldn't find the back of the net.

Barstow takes on Victorville next Tuesday away to try and end their season on a high note.
