BARSTOW - Detectives from the Barstow Police Department were hoping to find clues in a recent attempted murder. Instead, they found a bunch of meth and some coke.

Early Wednesday morning, the police and San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department arrested three people for suspicion of drug possession after serving search warrants at four different locations on North Third Street, a Barstow police report stated. Two others were arrested later on Wednesday during follow-up investigations.

Courtney Walker, 18, Michael Weathers, 26, and Lyndale Roberts, 22, were arrested for suspicion of sales of a controlled substances and parole violations. Later on Wednesday, Reginald Butler, 32, was arrested for suspicion of a parole violation, and George Cooper, 19, for suspicion of sales of cocaine, according to the report.

Police detectives Keith Libby and Jeremy Bledsoe sought the search warrants as part of the investigation into an attempted murder and robbery on Pallesi Street last week, Sgt. Andy Espinoza Sr. said. Libby and Bledsoe learned from witnesses that the shooting on Pallesi was directly connected to the four residences searched Wednesday morning, he said. The five arrested, however, are not suspected in the shooting.

"These five were persons at the residence at the time," Espinoza said.

The shooting remains under investigation. On Jan. 6, police officers found a 53-year-old Barstow man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the stomach in his residence on the 300 block of Pallesi Street. The victim told police at the scene that two men attempted to rob him, shot him and then fled the residence.

Wednesday's search warrants were conducted at 5 a.m. and involved the police department's Special Response Team and the sheriff's department's SWAT team. During the entry of one of residences, an occupant was burned by a "Flash Bang" diversionary device, treated at the scene and taken to Barstow Community Hospital. The device creates a loud noise and flash of light that distracts people so officers can make entry, Espinoza said.

After the initial morning search warrants, Libby and Bledsoe returned to one of the locations, found Butler and Cooper and arrested them.

All were booked into the Barstow jail.
